Our Purpose and Principles

Learning Beyond the Classroom. Exploring Our Community. Discovering What's Possible.

At Birchwood School, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when students step beyond the classroom walls. Our GET OUT THERE program embraces outdoor education, recreation, and environmental stewardship, giving students opportunities to explore our local community, connect classroom learning to real-world experiences, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.

Through hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, recreational activities, educational field experiences, and partnerships with local businesses and community organizations, students discover how learning extends into everyday life. From investigating Wisconsin's natural resources and exploring local geology to engaging in conservation efforts, outdoor recreation, science, technology, and career exploration, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while building environmental awareness, teamwork, and a lasting connection to the community they call home.

GET OUT THERE and discover the difference at Birchwood School!

We invite families to explore all the opportunities our school has to offer, where students learn by doing, connect with their community, and discover new passions beyond the classroom. At Birchwood, the world is our classroom — and the possibilities are endless!

Our local community is an extension of our classroom. GET OUT THERE provides students with opportunities to learn from the people, places, and resources that make our area special. By partnering with local businesses, professionals, organizations, and community members, we help students develop a deeper understanding of the world around them while building meaningful connections close to home.

Whether students are touring a local business, investigating the natural environment, learning from community experts, or exploring careers they may never have considered, each experience offers a new perspective and an opportunity to learn something meaningful.

GET OUT THERE helps bring classroom concepts to life. Students apply their knowledge, make observations, solve problems, collaborate with others, and engage in authentic learning experiences. These opportunities support academic growth while also building curiosity, confidence, communication skills, and an appreciation for their community.

Just as importantly, students begin to see the possibilities ahead of them. Meeting local professionals and exploring different industries helps them understand the many paths their futures could take.

At Birchwood School, learning is about more than mastering standards and completing assignments. It's about preparing students to be curious, capable, and connected individuals who understand the world they live in and the opportunities available to them.

GET OUT THERE reflects our commitment to providing engaging, meaningful learning experiences that students remember long after they return to the classroom.
